Start with a Plan — Not a Box
The single biggest mistake people make when packing for a move is starting without a system. You open the first box, throw in whatever is nearby, and end up with a kitchen timer sharing space with bathroom products and a tangle of phone chargers. At PackersHub, we’ve unpacked enough homes to know what works. Here’s the method our crews use.
Room-by-Room, Category-by-Category
Work through one room completely before moving to the next. Within each room, pack by category — books together, electronics together, clothes together. This makes both packing and unpacking significantly faster.
The Right Materials Matter
For fragile items: multi-layer bubble wrap plus corrugated sheet padding on all six sides of the box. Don’t rely on clothing or newspaper as the only protection — they don’t absorb shock reliably.
For furniture: furniture blankets or stretch wrap for surfaces, corner protectors for edges. If you’re in a coastal city, moisture-resistant wrapping for wood items is non-negotiable.
For electronics: original boxes where possible. If not available, anti-static bubble wrap inside a double-walled carton.
Label Everything Correctly
Write the destination room on the side of every box, not the top — you’ll see the side when boxes are stacked. Add a brief contents note: “Kitchen — pots and pans” or “Bedroom 2 — books.” Number your boxes and keep a master list.
What to Pack Last (and Why)
The last things you pack should be the first things you need at your new place: a kettle, coffee or tea, basic toiletries, a change of clothes, chargers, and important documents. Keep these in a separate bag or clearly labelled “open first” box and don’t let it go in the truck with everything else.
